Growing up in a family of artists and surrounded by artwork meant that art
was what we did and how we lived much as farmers farm, and fishermen fish.
My father was an architect and sculptor who had grown up in France, the son
of an internationally renowned etcher. It was my father who first
introduced me to sculpture when he brought me my first carving material in
the form of a large salt block or "lick" that he had obtained from a farm
supply depot. I was eight years old.
After obtaining my academic training in Fine Arts at Kansas State University
I spent the next 20 years developing my craft and teaching art courses at
colleges and universities in both Toronto and more recently in Beaufort and
on Hilton Head Island. My husband and I now spend the academic season in
Hilton Head and summers in Toronto. This provides a change of scene and
also an opportunity to work on sculpture in my Toronto studio.
I have been enriched by a number of group associations and am a founding
member of the Multi Media Arts Guild, Kingston, Ontario, a member of the
Beaufort Art Association, Hilton Head Art League, the Northview Group of
Artists, Ontario Woodcarvers Association, and a lifetime member of the
American art fraternity, Delta Phi Delta.
