When I was a child, my parents enrolled me in a drawing course. I remember drawing, erasing and tearing one piece of paper after another in attempt to make simple image of a chair come to life. My teacher looked at all the torn paper and told me that one day I will surely become a painter.
I wish that his words were true, but my life took me in different direction. I finished elementary school and Gymnasium in Kikinda and I received my BA in Law from University of Belgrade. I went to the Law school, chasing that good old security of 9-5 life, but I never stopped drawing and painting. I experimented with various forms of expression, from sculpture to painting, from hyper-realism to impressionism and from abstract art to aquarelle. My aspirations in painting have always been diverse, both in techniques and in the subject matters , but most often and with greatest passion, I find myself painting portraits.
Whether it’s a single person or a group, my goal is to explore the inner life of subjects and to convey it to the viewer with a feeling of serenity and relaxation. My motivation is to amuse the viewer, much like a witty eloquent who would like to make people laugh and think at the same time – only I am trying to achieve this goal using visual arts. My visual comedies are mostly tied to the feelings of family warmth, sometimes to a the subtle ironies of human characters, and seldom to a sarcastic commentaries of certain ills of the society. And if you ask me about those noses, I would answer with a quote – they are the “crack in everything through which the light comes in”.
