Priscilla Merrick Coleman grew up in Bluffton, South Carolina and has lived most of her life in the Lowcountry. Her work is strongly influenced by her childhood and present day meanderings through the Lowcountry's enigmatic marshes, fields and woodlands.
"My paintings begin on location, and then come into their own being- sometimes on site, other times in the studio. These are the landscapes ingrained in me, a mix of order and chaos, vast but at the same time, enveloping. Memory, exploration and discovery mix together. My attempt is not to capture an exact or literal depiction, but a new image, a reaction to the reality confronting me.”
Priscilla earned a bachelor’s degree in Art Education at The University of Georgia and an MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design. In addition to being an artist, Priscilla is the mother of three (grown) children, an organic farmer, and partner at Three Sisters Farm in Bluffton, SC.
